Garden

autumn

Free Trade Wharf boasts the largest and best landscaped garden of any of the Thames-side apartment blocks in Docklands. The terraced gardens and walkways lead from the main building down to the Thames Path and the historic wharves.

The garden has been cleverly designed and planted to ensure that there is interesting foliage and colour at all times of the year, with evergreen and deciduous flowering trees and shrubs blending in with spring bulbs, roses and summer blooms. It attracts a range of birds and butterflies and affords spectacular views of the river.

The Garden Committee ensures that the garden is expertly cared for, planned and pruned with the help of professional gardeners employed to carry out regular garden maintenance.

Within the garden there are four sculptures especially commissioned for Free Trade Wharf. Regalian sponsored a competition to provide relevant sculpture to reflect the site’s history. The Public Art Development Trust commissioned four artists to produce the works now on display in the garden:

Old Father Thames, a symbol of the river, by Polly Ionides
Regalian Stone Column, a historic depiction, by Robert Koenig
Forms of Life, life from the historic past, by Mark Dunhill
Tea Pot, a symbol of the Tea Trading of Free Trade Wharf, by Christine Merton

Summer barbecues organised by the Residents Association also take place in the garden.

The facilities also include a gym. Equipment includes running machines, rowing machines, bikes, cross trainers and various other equipment suited for both the casual gym user and fitness buffs.

Gym and pool users have access to the adjacent changing rooms and showers.

Function Room

A function room is also available for residents to hire free of charge. It includes a fully-equipped kitchen, cloakroom facilities, coffee tables and easy chairs. A deposit is required when hosting guests from outside Free Trade Wharf.

The Free Trade Wharf Management Company and the Residents’ Association often use the function room for their monthly meetings and the room is used by residents for parties and casual coffee mornings.

The Residents’ Association often hosts themed events for residents, such as an annual Burns Night Supper, summer barbecues, and tea parties. For further information about the Residents Association please contact enquiries@ftwra.co.uk.
